San Francisco Department of the Environment

School Education Program

SF Environment provides free year-round environmental education programs and curriculum to all K-12 public and independent schools in San Francisco.

Founded in 2007, our School Education team’s mission is to provide equitable environmental education and access to nature for all youth throughout San Francisco. The program connects youth to themselves, the world around them, and empowers them to climate action to create the future they want to see.

Connect to Nature throughout our City each day while we are learning remotely. During the global health emergency, when you do venture outside, please remember to follow the public health orders and guidelines issued by state and local officials.

Supporting Zero Waste at School: “Learn the benefits of practicing the 3Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle) and empower your team and students to do their part. Join this presentation to see a quick tour of Recology’s facilities and learn some tips on how to start and maintain a sustainable recycling and composting program.”

    • Each year our team awards the school community for providing innovative solutions that support San Francisco’s climate protection goals. These goals include eliminating waste, promoting healthy communities and ecosystems, and amplifying community action.
    • The call for nominations closed at 11:59 p.m. PST on Friday February 21, 2020. Nominations for the 2021 School Awards will open in January 2021.
