Public charging
San Francisco has demonstrated full support of the electric vehicle (EV) with the installation of dozens of legacy charging stations in the 1990s and the installation of three, standardized chargers in front of City Hall for the Green Vehicle Showcase in 2009. The City continues to encourage the EV movement with the installation of more chargers throughout San Francisco. There are now 600 public EV charging stations within City limits. Workplace charging
Aside from their homes, workplaces are where EV drivers spend most of their time. EVs are parked at the workplace for about 8 hours a day. Therefore, the workplace provides a tremendous opportunity for EV charging. Not only does workplace charging help ease the load on the electricity grid, but it also incentivizes employees, complements sustainability efforts, and signals corporate leadership. There are financial assistance opportunities available for workplaces to install EV charging stations, such as the California Capital Access Program (CalCAP) Electric Vehicle Charging Station (EVCS) Financing Program.
